On Competitive Dendrite Growth in Single Crystal Ni-Base Superalloys
I would like to invite you to an institute-wide seminar organized by the Institute Council, which will take place on Tuesday, September 8, at 10:00 a.m. in the IPM lecture hall (coffee/tea will be served starting at 9:30 a.m.).
Lecture (in English):
Prof. Gunther Eggeler | Ruhr University Bochum, Germany
On Competitive Dendrite Growth in Single Crystal Ni-Base Superalloys
Abstract:
Ni-base single crystal superalloys are used to make blades for gas turbines operating in aero engines and power plants. They have to withstand mechanical loads at temperatures close to their melting point. They are produced via an ingot-metallurgy route involving directional solidification, constitutional undercooling, and dendrite growth. The lecture focuses on how dendrites grow and how collective dendrite growth phenomena account for crystal mosaicity. Dendrite interactions are studied with a special focus on branching and extinction events.
This lecture is organized as part of the project “Partnership for Security in Sustainable Transport and Energy (PSSITE)”, Reg. No. CZ.02.01.01/00/23_020/0008549, co-financed by the European Union.
